Kash is a trans non-binary sneaker customer based in Washington, D.C.
After struggling for years to find men’s clothing that fit their 5’2” frame, Kash decided to buy a sewing machine in 2017. They learned how to tailor their clothes to fit them, and then started to customize even more with materials like bleach and paint. Once they mastered clothing customization, Kash moved on to their true love: sneakers. They started Customs By Kash, a sneaker customization business, in late 2019, joining their passions for art, design, and sneakers together.
Fashion saved Kash’s life; as a trans person, developing their strong sense of style gave Kash the courage to be themself and to develop their self esteem. They want to help others feel confident with themselves, even if it’s just by making them a fresh pair of sneakers.
Kash has a B.A. in Spanish and Chinese from Dickinson College and an M.A. in Communication, Culture, and Technology from Georgetown University. During their time in grad school, they studied how women and gender non-conforming people have been historically excluded in sneaker culture, and how the community can become more inclusive.
